Our nonprofit organization offers Weatherization services to low-wealth families in our 8-county service area in Western North Carolina. We also offer Head Start services to families in Buncombe and Madison counties. Our third, and last program is called Life Works. This program offers coaching services and funds to low-wealth families to help move them out of poverty.

Community Housing Coalition (CHC) of Madison County is a community non-profit providing urgent home repair and rehabilitation services at no charge to Madison County residents in need of assistance. In 2023, CHC built its first new-construction affordable replacement housing.

Founded in 1988 by volunteers, Mountain Housing Opportunities is the regional nonprofit leader in developing and preserving safe, stable, and affordable housing in Buncombe County and beyond. MHO serves more than 2,500 households each year in western North Carolina through affordable rental homes, essential home repair, the construction and sale of new affordable homes, and down payment assistance. MHO’s mission is to build and improve homes, neighborhoods, communities, and lives, and build hope and dignity in the people we serve.

Our Goals:
To do such things as are necessary or desirable for advancing the general welfare of the people of Haywood and Jackson Counties (and surrounding area thereof).
To develop and implement comprehensive programs which will be designed to improve the social, economic, educational, health, emotional and environmental aspects of the lives of the families and individuals eligible to participate in programs in Haywood and Jackson Counties.
To involve disadvantaged people in planning and carrying out all programs that deal with their problems.
To develop new types of services and innovative approaches in attacking causes of poverty.
