The Land of the Sky Association of REALTORS® has launched Make Room Asheville, a community campaign calling on Asheville City Council to adopt two practical housing solutions currently under consideration:
- Allowing duplexes and townhomes in more neighborhoods
- Expanding access to Accessory Dwelling Units (ADUs)
Rising housing costs and limited choices are making it harder for local residents — the people who work, live, and raise families in Asheville — to stay. These two changes would create more options without altering the character of existing neighborhoods.
Duplexes, townhomes, and ADUs aren’t new to Asheville. Many of these housing types have always been part of our community. Expanding where they’re allowed is a measured, practical step toward a more accessible city.
